Ah, l'amour. I gotta admit, I love proposal stories. I'm a softie at heart. (And yes, totally should've brought a Mariachi. Because why not?)

Ah, baguette.

You big softie, you.

I know I should have. Maybe one day.

Somehow I hadn't seen this until now, and oh m y goodness is it so beyond sweet. The signs and Godwinks were amazing. As I believe I've said in another comment on another blog post of yours, you and Mrs. Cantu are a beautiful inspiration to Catholics discerning marriage, and the fact that your beautiful marriage came out of a long distance relationship, and the fact that you received signs and Godwinks....it's just beautiful and very, very hopeful for those discerning marriage. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story with us.

That was just awesome, Walther! Long distance relationships; am a fan! And in the moment, improvise for sure! Great story!

Nice. I dated my current partner long-distance for about 2 years (not insurmountable - I'm talking like a 2.5 hour drive with moderate traffic). It was a lot easier because by the time we started talking, we were both comfortable with instant messaging. That made the courting and being apart a ton easier.

We've lived together for over ten years now, and have been together nearly 15.

I was flying to Northern California every three weeks. So a 2.5 hour drive is a breeze. And I agree, technology made it easier.

I've done other long-distance relationships in the past that clearly didn't work out as well as this one, so maybe the person matters too!

Absolutely, early twenties Walther wouldn't date women that lived across town. Late twenties Walther had to move to a different country and date someone out of state. Totally worth it.

Early 20s Andrew would have been exposed to the internet, but just barely. Even trying to drive somewhere in the days before Mapquest (not to mention Google Maps) was dangerous and intimidating (relative to today, anyway). Leaving home was always an adventure!

2. Wedding receptions should reflect the marriage feast of the Lamb to come in Revelation 19, but I think a simpler less expensive wedding can help keep the focus on Christ

Amen to that. I read somewhere that "cheaper" or "smaller" wedding receptions are directly correlated with the length of a marriage. I don't know if globally or just in the US but absolutely, the focus should be in the sacrament.
