Hello friends! Welcome to another edition of Heavyweight, a monthly report of my fitness journey.

What went well?
I kicked my nicotine habit.
Taking time off from exercise helped my back feel better (I tweaked it on 4/26).
What could’ve gone better?
I’m an emotional eater, as you probably know by now. The first half of May was joyful because of my son’s first communion. The second half of May was sorrowful because of my grandma’s death.
I could’ve done some light activity like walking and stretching. I did nothing.
Results
Month on month, I’m up 3.8 pounds. However, it looks like I gained 4.6 pounds of body fat and lost 0.8 pounds of muscle mass, which is not great.
Year to date, I’ve lost 9.4 pounds of weight and 10.6 pounds of body fat.
Since starting Heavyweight in July 2024, I’ve lost 21.4 pounds of weight and 24.6 pounds of body fat, an average of 1.9 pounds per month.
May was not a good month for me, but I’m trying to be gentle with myself and keep the negative self-talk down to a minimum. The results weren’t what I hoped for, but since there’s no end date, I can still turn it around this month.
Publishing a bad month is humbling and motivating at the same time.

Before I go
Best advice for kicking a bad habit?
Why is comfort food so good?
Are you beach body ready? I’m like swim trunk, rashguard, hat, and glasses to the pool ready.
May: 218
June: 221 🤦♂️
This always happens. I'll do well, and then slack off.
May was also a weird month for me. I slacked off on a lot of domains, so need to get back into it. Here's some stats i'll start reporting. iPhone has a 'loops' thing for days i've met my walking goal i.e. 'closed the loop'. Of the 31 days in May, I closed the loop 8 times. I got more than 50% of my loop 9 times, so I had what i would consider a "good day" 17/31 days. This compared with April which was 25/30 days. No wonder i did well in April.
One thing that helps, I had a 30 minute walking route ironed out, recently found a 1hr walking route, so will start availing myself of that. 30 minutes is ~50% complete and 1hr is definitely a closed loop. June has so far continued the trend from May, so i'll arrest that process today with a 1hr walk and i'll keep it going.
I also have been WAAAAY loosey goosey on food. So if I can at least contain the flex to weekends I think i'll be on a good trend. That will be what I attempt, so we'll see how I do come July's Heavyweight.
