Ya the pieces can get a little scattered. But you are penalized if they fall off the board. So the technique is controlled destruction. We need to have to have a board game double date night! We have a lot of fun ones that need to be dusted off and played again. I like to think they are becoming like the toys on the Toy Story Movie. Just longing to be played again!

Y’all are so sweet! Our NYE was lovely--the kids had napped terribly so they were in bed by 6:30 and we weren’t for behind 😂

What better way to ring in the new year then a fun board game with your wife. https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/97903/terror-meeple-city

So much fun! Such a unique game that has a physical element of dropping Godzillas onto the board to destroy citizens and buildings

I have read/listened to the old common ones, “the republic, paradise lost, Dante’s inferno.” All pretty much over my head. I found it best to stick with the ones that read like a normal person can follow. “Moby dick, Huckleberry Finn, the great Gatsby” listening to “the brothers karamazov” right now. It is very good.

That board game looks fun, however Diana and I need to play the Ted Lasso board game you gave me for my birthday before we move on to a new one LOL. Also, that sounds like the kind of board game the kids would lose all the pieces of if we leave it within reach.

I want to read the brothers K eventually.

On Writing Well helped shape my writing more than any other book on the subject. It’s incredible - hope you find some value in it!

Your dresser covered in wrapping paper looks amazing, and I high key want to steal the idea for next year.

Seeing as I didn’t catch on at first, when I read your question about 2023, that we’re no longer in that year, I think I’m in trouble.

I believe that's a repurposed table runner that Diana threw over the hutch, very festive.

I believe in you, Chantal! I may just start signing my communications with –Walther, 2024 so I remember faster.

1) New Year's Eve was surprisingly eventful. Normally, I'm in bed no later than 10. But some friends showed up and surprised me for my birthday. We lit a fire, ate pizza, drank beer, and talked. It was amazing. 2) My Job requires me to write the date every day and I've written 2023 several times this week but have gotten it together by now. 3) I've read a few of the Great Books. Animal Farm by Orwell, most recently. I've read Paradise Lost but that was years ago before my brain was truly engaged. I tried one time to Listen to Confessions on audiobook and quickly realized that was not the way I needed to "read" a book like that. That one will require me sitting dow and giving it my undivided attention. I intend on making my was through many of the Great Books in the coming years.

What a wonderful surprise! That sounds amazing.

The thing is, you can't turn a 3 into a 4 easily. You have to scribble the crap out it so people know you meant 4. And in the process, show your mistake. Writing the 4 after a crossed out 3 makes it worse, in my opinion.

I agree with you that there are books that are not meant to be consumed in audiobook form. Years ago I started listening to "The Power of Silence" in audiobook and a friend pointed out how ironic it was for me to have the audio version of a book about silence. I have yet to buy a physical copy of it.

I only do New Year's Eve asleep in bed. I haven't had to write 2024 yet! I read Confessions for the first time a few years ago and again more recently. I found some of the language a bit over emotional and "woe is me" for my taste but that's perhaps just me. But on reading for a second time, I appreciated it more and find his whole story so inspirational. I think he demonstrates how we can have multiple conversions through life, how it is easy to go off the path but there is always a road back, if we are open to it.
