We got rained on the two days we were camping but the rain fly of our tent did a decent job at keeping us dry inside. And you know what they say: tragedy + time = comedy. My kids now say: "Remember that time we almost froze to death when we went camping?" Good times.
I don't know about FAVORITE camping memory but this is my strongest camping memory. My family got to the campsite, and we were basically totally unprepared. We didn't have pads so we could feel every acorn under the tent. It started to rain as soon as we arrived. The tent was leaking and water was getting INSIDE the tent. My siblings and I were all complaining. We packed up and went home immediately. Pretty funny in hindsight.
I had the precise same childhood experience down to every detail except one: for some bizarre reason we stuck it out and spent the night in the tent under those conditions.
Mountain goats like to lick salt. Pee is very salty. It is recommended to pee on large rocks/boulders to avoid mountain goats eating dirt where pee has fallen and thus getting sick/dying. Sometimes while one is peeing, a mountain goat is looking on in order to immediately lick said pee once you walk away. Some get very close. It was a goal of a 15 year old camper of mine to pee directly in a mountain goat’s mouth. He had this goal for several years as he always chose to go on the Chicago Basin Backpacking Trip https://sjma.org/chicago-basin-trip-planning/
No one witnessed the event, but he said he was successful. I think his story is plausible. I have had one of those mountain goats stand within ten feet of me (they are super sneaky as their hooves are soft for extra grip for scaling Mountains) while going #2. I walked away and he was on it as fast as a hyponatremic horse on a salt lick.

I'm imagining the dad from calvin and hobbes saying "it builds character" 😂
It really does!
"I’m not a Luddite yet, but give me time." 😆 Thank you for the much-needed laugh on this day home from work during a fibromyalgia flare.
I hope you feel better soon!
